Flokati Rug Care

FLOKATI RUG CARE

Flokati rugA Flokati rug is a beautiful and stunning rug hand woven from 100% Greek wool and processed in a special water treatment that gives them a really good quality fluffy feel and rich appearance.  Because of the nature of the rug, cleaning is surprisingly easy, one of the main methods of cleaning a Flokati rug is to give it a good old fashioned shake.  The rugs are made from natural wool which are great for repelling dirt and dust.  A good Flokati rug will generally in normal use only require a proper clean about once a year.  There is no need to dry clean a Flokati rug, the best way is the traditional way of using cool water (not hot as is can shrink the fibres) and a little detergent. Filling a bath with a few inches of warm water and a drop of detergent specified for cleaning wool is one of the easiest ways to do this at home.  Once gently cleaned, simply rinse well and hang the rug to dry naturally avoiding direct sunlight.  It is possible if you have enough capacity to wash a Flokati rug on a cool wool cycle in a washing machine, but it depends on the size of the rug and the size of the drum.  The other option is of course a larger machine in a launderette.  Be careful when using a detergent to make sure that it has no bleach in it as this can be harmful to the wool.
